My Water colored art pieces

I have been painting more art pieces and this time it is a dog! I love dogs and that is why I started trying to paint a dog.

I still have to continue. I will post another picture when it gets finished!

My Daily drawings

I also drew a shampoo bottle. I just wanted to draw something really easy for the basic structure and added a design! It was quiet fun.

I also have listened to a talk on TED and it had this awesome idea of new design idea! Jeensop Lee was the talker and he showed the audience this idea of designing products using all our 5 senses. I found out that designers only uses sight and a bit of touch to make/design a product. But if they also use hearing, smelling, and tasting, then I bet the product will be more interesting!

My Daily Drawings

I have been doing more daily drawings.
I drew a dog again, since I really enjoyed it last time! :)
I also drew some house plans but just for fun as usual.

Oh and one more. I drew a woman.

So that's it for now.

Book Report

This is the second book report for 'The Old man and the Sea'.
This time I wrote it in a diary form. It is from Manolin's point of view.

*

Wednesday evening
Dear Diary,
Today I woke up really early. I woke up early because I had to make sure the Old man went out to the sea safely. I hope he catches the biggest fish that can be found in this ocean. It is already the 85th day he is starving. I went back to my house and helped my mother with the breakfast. She seemed pleased with my attitude. I usually am not able to wake up this early to help my mother with the breakfast.

I was still thinking about the old man when I went to the fisherman, whom I was getting taught. He is quite nice but he is not friendly at all. He is stiff and doesn’t talk the whole trip. Fishermen usually don’t open their mouth when fishing, but I always did with the Old man. Helping him with what he caught and he helping me of what I caught. We used to make jokes and sing songs to get over with the tiredness, but not anymore. I hope the Old man is doing fine. I have been praying for him to catch the finest fish anyone can ever catch. I think I was very distracted today in my fishing class. The fisherman kept on grumbling at me about my lack of sincere.  I don’t know why I am so into thinking about the Old man. He should be fine. He would be complimenting how the ocean is so beautiful and wide today, he will bless the waves for splashing against his boat so musically. The Old man loves the ocean no matter if it never provided fish to him or did. He will be still smiling widely when he comes back to the shore with zero fish. He would tell me stories of the ocean today. I shouldn’t worry about the Old man, he should be fine.

This is what exactly I was thinking for the whole day. But I am still worried. The Old man didn’t come to shore at afternoon. Some fishermen came back to shore and they were drinking beer and resting safe on land. What hold the Old man from coming back to shore with his typical smile? If he came back then, then we could drank beer together talking like last time. I am really worried about him. I hope he didn’t get lost in the middle of the ocean and not knowing where to go. What if he doesn’t have enough strength to pull a fish up? Maybe the fish is too big, fat and stubborn for him to pull it up? I hope he will come back to shore fast with loads and loads of fishes on his boat. All the fish that he wasn’t able to seek for 85 days!

It is already 7 in the evening. The Old man usually comes back to shore at 6:30. Something should be wrong. I am going to be eating dinner in 15 minutes. I really want to see the Old man coming to shore and smiling at me before I go eat my dinner. My parent thinks I am really stubborn child. And I think it is true. I know that just waiting here worrying won’t make anything different and make the Old man come to the shore safe. But I just keep on doing it. I just have to or I won’t be able to stand it. I have been worrying and worrying but I still can’t see even a tip of Old man’s boat at the far end of the sea. The sun has been setting and it is now meeting with the sea and the sea is turning orange. What a beautiful scene, I hope I could see this with the Old man right now. But I still can’t see him. Maybe something went really wrong with the Old man. I need to find it out someway. I have got 5 minutes till my dinner, I must to see him. He has to come to the shore some how. He just has to.

I waited for as long as I can but it looks like he won’t come back in a few seconds. I am terribly worried. I don’t want the Old man to just disappear like this, now my only hope is to wait for him tomorrow in the morning. Maybe I can wake up really early and help my mother with the breakfast first. She said that would be really appreciated.  But I should go now. The Old man must be in his shack tomorrow morning.

I think I will be writing more of 'The Old man and the Sea' book reports.

Book Report

I read a book called 'The Outsiders" by S.E Hinton. It was very fun to read this book. So I wrote a book report!

The Outsiders
By S.E. Hinton

Dear Diary,
I got a new taste of books these days. Until last time I loved books which was about utopia. But now I think I enjoy reading the very opposite kind of books. So today I am going to introduce you this interesting and a touching book called ‘The Outsiders’ by S.E. Hinton.

The characters in this book are very different from me. And if I say different, it means really the very opposite corner. They are all teenagers and young adults. They live in the corners of the city. They all don’t have proper family. Some don’t have a dad or mom. Some don’t have any parents and only have brothers and sisters. Some have parents who abuse them. There are two gangs in this side of the city. One is the greasers and one is the socs. These two gangs are enemies and they always want to make a fight. Well later on, this brings a big tragedy to the greasers.

Ponyboy lives with his brothers. He loves Sodapop, who is one of his brothers. But he hates Darry. Well Ponyboy always thought Darry hated him back. But later on he finds out he was totally wrong. In the gang, Ponyboy was unusually close with Johny who had parents who abuses him. These two escapes their houses and ran away. They got a lot closer when they escaped from their homes. They later become a hero in the countryside because they helped the little kids to escape from the burning church.

The way that Johny and Ponyboy felt when they were helping the little kids is really interesting. They never felt worried or scared. I can know that Ponyboy and Johny felt the sacrifice and the happiness they didn’t cried because they got burnt or did they blame the kids. They just felt joy, which is different from other people in their gang. I can see that Ponyboy and Johny is different than other people. I can see it from everywhere. They are young and terrified with lots of things, but they are not like Dally who goes all wrong and live a wrong life.

The most amazing thing about this author is that Hinton can take the reader to places where they never dreamt that they would ever go there. I never even thought I would feel the things that the outsiders feel. And I never thought I would understand how the outsiders feel about the world. But S.E. Hinton took me to this place and explained me carefully how they felt about the world. It was amazing how I understand someone totally different from me. It was just fantastic. Now I have a chance to look at the world with a different point of view.

I really liked the book. But I think it was made to make a movie. Has so many actions in it. But I really liked it!

Shakespeare's Play

Now I am reading 'Much Ado about Nothing' and I love it. It is hilarious!
Well if you ask me who is my favorite character till now, I will say Beatrice and Benedick. I love their character and how they always quarrel. I especially love Beatrice's sharp tongue. And these two relationship is very interesting.

I have written a letter to Shylock to make sure I still remember what Merchant of Venice was like. Because I love that play.

*

Dear Shylock,

Hello Shylock. I really was interested in your attitude towards everyone. I dare to explain you my opinion about you. I understand that almost everyone didn’t care or understood you in Venice. Yes, it is because you are Jewish and Venice appreciates Christians. I feel bad about this situation and I am also here to tell you that you are not always wrong.

I still have to accept that you were not right in every single situation as you think. Sometimes you were wrong. But I understand this because humans make mistakes. It was very disapproving when you cursed Antonio just because he invited you to his dinner party. I know it is not very exciting to go to a Christian’s house for a dinner. But it was a bit rude of you. You could have explained to Antonio without showing your private feelings about Antonio. That could have hurt Antonio’s feelings. And there are another deeds you did which was wrong. Getting upset and awful when your daughter got all your jewels and treasure with her. This could not have been wrong and so inhuman if you were upset because your daughter just escaped from your house. You were upset because your daughter also has your jewels and your treasure. Not because ‘she’ escaped. I was quite shock when you behaved like that.

But I also think you did something good. Sometimes I felt sorry about how other venetians behaved in front of you. Just because you are a Jew.  When Antonio was visiting your house because he needed money for his friend Basanio, he didn’t acted civilized at all. He kept on cursing you and spitting on you. It was appropriate for you to defend yourself. I do not blame you for cursing back. It is not that Christians are more great and well than Jews. Also when you met lady Portia in the court. It is not that what Portia did was wrong. What you told and behaved in front of Portia is not appropriate. You could have been more civilized. Portia said the right thing, just that she was trying to protect a Christian. And that is not the right thing to do. You were right and true. You were going to have what you deserve and what you promised to have. You were being very fair and rightful. I understand that Basanio and Portia were being to over protective to Antonio just because he was a Christian. I really felt bad for you at that part. That was the most unfair part in the play.

I think you could have behaved a lot better when you got your result in the court. You should have stood up, with manners and could have gone. You actually wanted what you wrote in the bond. A flesh from Antonio’s bond, not his blood nor his death. You can’t just sit there on the floor of the court and cry until you are finished. I found that a bit disturbing and not right. You can’t do anything because it all makes sense and the judge is right. I can’t say anything against it because it is true and fair.

Overall, I think you were more disapproving then being appreciated. You could have behaved more civilized and learnt then just shouting and showing rage of anger. I think I could quite understand how Christian thinks Jews are rough and don’t have manners. Because you never actually behaved totally civilized. Christians were more civilized than how you were. I know that it is very unfair for you because you are staying in Venice, which is full of Christian people. So not everything is going to be fair. But I hoped you could have acted better than Christian people.
Sincerely,

Anne, Heewon Chang

Poem Analysis

This poem is popular and also fantastic.
This poem really inspired me. I liked the idea of how we, humans are too busy to even look at nature's beauty. In one word, Inspiring.

*
Stopping by the woods on a snowy evening                by Robert Frost

This poem is about a man who was going on his way home with his horse. When he reaches the forest he suddenly stops. There was a forest with snow falling on it gently. The beauty of the forest amazed him. He tried to enjoy this moment, but his horse shook its bell waking him up from this dream. He recognizes that he has so many works to do beyond enjoying the view of such places. He exposes his opinion on this piece of poem showing the pity of our busy life. The theme of this poem is, ‘our life is too busy to even enjoy a slight moment of joy in front of beautiful nature.’ This poem has all kinds of sadness, which expresses the busy life of man. This could be the tone of the poem.

When you are reading this poem, you can imagine a scene inside your mind how the man comes by riding a horse, give a glance to the forest, daze at it and get on going with his way. It is because the poem has a lot of visual imagery. When the man says ‘To watch his woods fill up with snow’ you can actually imagine a deep wood filling up with white snow. You also know that this view is amazingly beautiful. Why? Because you have also seen this kind of sight once in your life that you can relate it to. The poem has a very strong visual imagery effect because the poet seeks for things and actions that all the people in the world are familiar with. If you can relate some phrases or even stories in some writing with your own experience, it gives you a strong effect and it is strong enough to stay in your brain for a while. When he says ‘between the woods and frozen lake’ you can see them in front of your eyes and can feel the cold behind your back. This could also be one of Robert Frost’s tricks trying to relate to what the readers know and experienced. When the ‘horse gives the man a harness bells a shake’… and when the poet says ‘the only other sound’s the sweep of easy wind and downy flake’, it gives you a strong auditory imagery. You can immediately imagine how quite the surroundings are and how loud the bell sounds in this situation. The light breeze and even the sound of snow falling were heard. But then the tinkling of the bell came… This startles you because of its loudness. Surprisingly the man in this poem also gets startled and get back to reality from daydreaming. This makes you approve a lot to this character and helps you understand the poem more.

Symbols make the whole point of writing this poem a lot stronger. When the poet says ‘My little horse must think queer to stop without a farmhouse near’. This shows that even the horse is used to going near a farmhouse when stopping or stopping when they are at the destiny they ought to be. Not even the man but also animals are used to doing their duty and not caring about the nature. This could be a symbol of desperate situation. The poet says in the last two lines, ‘and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep’ this could have two meanings. One could be the sleep he will have at the end of the day. So this basically means he still have a lot of things he have to do before his day ends. But another meaning could be the amount of things he has to do in a lifetime. Sometime sleep symbolizes death. So these two lines have two symbols.

In Robert Frost poems, there aren’t many figures of speech. It is usually straight forward or matter of fact attitude. But in this poem there is one figure of speech. There is a repetition in the last two lines. ‘And miles to go before I sleep’ is repeated two times. It could be trying to tell the reader how important that is. Or it could mean two different things just like what I said above.
